Baja Agro International S.A. of C.V. (AGROIN), is a Mexican company located in Ensenada, Baja California in northwestern Mexico, which has been dedicated, since 1983, to the use and industrialization of the Yucca schidigera plant, which only thrives in the northwestern of Mexico and in the southwestern United States. The extract of this plant, liquid or powder, has various uses, such as in the manufacture of agricultural soil improvers and conditioners, in grain rolling, in wastewater treatment, as a food supplement for human consumption, but its most widespread use is as an ingredient to manufacture feed for poultry, pigs, cattle, pets, as well as aquaculture species, where it has demonstrated its efficiency in reducing environmental and metabolic emissions of gases that are harmful to animals, improving the farm air quality as well as feed conversion efficiency and animal weight gain.

Beginnings

Starting in 1983, we began the production of Yucca schidigera juice and concentrate to supply foreign companies that were dedicated to the formulation of various products.

1989

Industrial Use

In 1989, the company called Sección Especializada Explotadora de Recursos No Maderables El Álamo del Ejido Jamau was established in order to obtain the operation registry for the processing of Yucca schidigera, thus the first industrial plant was born in Rancho Viejo.

1992

Innovative New Project

Due to the growing demand for Yucca schidigera in any of its forms, in 1992 we began research work focused on the domestication and reproduction of the Yucca schidigera plant.

1993

Agroindustrias EL ALAMO

In 1993, the company Agroindustrias El Álamo (AGROIN) was formed with the aim of industrializing and internationally marketing the products made from Yucca schidigera.

1993

Domestication and Reproduction

Carrying out various tests to determine the best planting method, the first nursery was established for the reproduction of Yucca schidigera seedlings, observing a germination of 60% and beginning domestication.

1994

International Commerce

At the beginning of 1994 we participated in the International Poultry Expo in the city of Atlanta, GA, this being our first international commercial exhibition, an event that we continue to attend every year.

1996

First Plantation

After 3 years, we successfully transferred, from the nursery to the field, the first Yucca schidigera plants for a total of 8 hectares.

1997

New International Markets

By increasing our production capacity and investing in brand exposure, we managed to break through in Europe and Latin America.

1998

We conquered the Asian continent

The good quality of our products opened the doors for us in the Asian market, establishing good and lasting business relationships.

1999

State Exportation Award

The Government of the State of Baja California grants us the State Export Award for our international growth.

2000

National Exportation Award

We participated in the category of small agricultural company and were awarded the prestigious National Export Award.

2003

Successful Domestication

After 7 years of the first transplant from the nursery to the field, in 2003 we managed to reach 42 hectares of Yucca schidigera.

2004

OMRI Registration

To access the growing organic market in Mexico and the United States, we needed to comply with the organic standards of the food industry.

2006

New Identity

In 2006 we changed our name to Baja Agro International, with a renewed integrated vision, the company is strengthened and allows us to face more important challenges with greater international significance.

2008

National Forestry Award

Thanks to the effort to develop the first and only commercial plantation of Yucca schidigera in the world, this important project was awarded the National Forestry Award.

2009

HACCP and ISO22000:2005 Certification

Due to the increase in regulations for the making of products for animal consumption, we decided to develop our Quality and Safety System (SICI), obtaining the HACCP and ISO 22000:2005 certifications and thus satisfy the safety of our processes.

2011

GMP+B2 & GMP+B3 Certification

The production of supplies for animal feed is a shared responsibility, therefore, we decided to certify ourselves GMP+B2 and B3 to comply with the continuous regulations in relation to food safety of the European Union and the United Kingdom.

2014

Kosher Certification

In response to the demands of the Jewish animal feed market, we decided to certify our most popular products as Kosher.

2016

National Exportation Award

The success of our products abroad motivated us to participate for the second time in the PNE, and we were proudly awarded first place in the category of medium-sized agricultural company, thanks to our effort, perseverance and quality to compete and represent Mexico throughout the world.

2017

Halal Certification

Our horizons expanded to important Muslim nations and thanks to the effectiveness of our products and our good practices we obtained the Halal Certification.

2020

We Achieved 500 Hectares

In 1993 we started the Yucca schidigera domestication project in a nursery, after 27 years we achieved the goal of planting 500 hectares, ensuring the raw material for future generations.

2022

HACCP and ISO22000:2018

Compared to 2005, the 2018 version adds ISO management system principles, such as customer focus, leadership, staff commitment, among others, which are consistent with the high-level structure of our operating processes.

2022

Forest Merit 2022

The National Forestry Commission (Conafor) awarded us the National Award for Forestry Merit, recognizing the commercial plantation of Yucca schidigera, as a relevant contribution in favor of the conservation, protection and sustainable use of forest resources in Mexico.
