We hired the Centro de Investigación y Asistencia en Tecnología y Diseño (CIATEJ) from the State of Jalisco to carry out the project of establishing of Yucca schidigera in vitro for the purpose of propagating plants with the highest genetic value and productivity in its biochemical content. In 2002 we will be producing the plants in our own laboratory in Ensenada, B.C.

Four years ago we initiated the Investigation Program for Species
Domestication for the express purpose of guaranteeing the long term supply of
the raw material. This program studies the production of Yucca schidigera plants
in tree nursery and the plantations grown with drip irrigation. To the date they
have established a plantation of 80,000 plants with ages from two to four years.
This is the only plantation in its type that is known in the world and promises
with the results obtained to the date, to be a good alternative to guarantee the
supply in a next future.
In addition, last year upon observing the large phenotypic variability of our
plantations, we decided to initiate a new line of investigation for the plant
propagation.
