Environment:To take care about our environment is one of our companys main objectives. That is why when we harvest and process the Yucca schidigera, we use the most proper techniques to preserve this valuable natural resource. Four years ago we stated to research a program for the propagation and "domestication" of this plant specie to ensure our raw material supply the only one of its kind. Our Yucca schidigera source:The Yucca schidigera is a unique plant, that only thrives in the northern part of the Baja California Peninsula in Mexico and in part of the Mojave Desert in the USA. Our facility is located just in the Baja California Peninsula, where the plant is most abundant. We harvest the Yucca from two of our own ranches and from 10 associates farms. The Yucca harvest is regulated by the Mexican Federal Government through the Forestry Department. To satisfy the government requirements we have to make studies of the plant ripeness and sizes, an inventory of the plant population and a complete environmental impact study. The interesting advantage of the Mexican government regulation and method of harvesting Yucca schidigera is that we only prune the plants, taking out the mature and the over-mature stems. This means that the farms are under forestry management with regular annual cuts and have continuous yields for a period of up to 25 years. These management techniques and field studies are performed and improved by our company's technical department, both in our own harvesting fields as well as those of our associates. This technical department also enforces a strict size and ripeness policy, not only to comply with the Mexican regulation, but to preserve this valuable resource for future generations. Yucca schidigera nursery and plantations :Besides the above mentioned management techniques that assure the regeneration of the plant for future harvest, we believe that in the future the demand for Yucca schidigera stems could be more than the supply. Contrary to other producers of Yucca schidigera products, we are currently conducting research involving the propagation and planting of Yucca schidigera seedlings to grow the plants in a controlled desert environment on our ranches. These technological breakthroughs are passed to our associates and field people by our permanent extension program. |
